Why Social Media Engagement is So Important

Social media, particularly Facebook, is dictated by participation.  It didn’t always used to be this way… Facebook used to be a very business friendly tool and was a great way I could communicate with my past, current, and potential future clients.  All I had to do was get people to like my page and I knew I could reach them.  Now, Facebook will share any given post with between 100-200 of the nearly 1500 fans I worked so hard to gather… that’s roughly 10% of my supposed audience.

They want me to pay for exposure.  (If you run a business page, this post clearly is not for you.) See? I can pay $10.00 to reach just the number of fans I used to be able to reach for nothing.  🙁 Quite discouraging!

However, when there is activity on a post (when people like, comment, or share), Facebook sees this as more relevant and shares it with more people.

When people tag themselves, it helps increase the audience as well so that this way their Facebook friends see the activity and have an opportunity to like or comment as well.  I appreciate all those clients who do tag themselves, and for all my Facebook fans who take the time to like my posts as they pass them in their newsfeed.  A little “like” goes a LONG way for us small business owners!
